The 1000 Year Reign of Jesus Christ (Revelation #50)

Text: Revelation 20:1-10

The literal 1000 year reign of the Lord Jesus Christ is a time of unprecedented righteousness and peace on this earth.  There are two false doctrines regarding the 1000 year reign of Jesus Christ and there is the biblical record of it.  The two false doctrines of the Millennial reign of Christ are called Amillennialism and Postmillennialism.  Now, nobody cares about these words except the people that use them.  However these false interpretations affect people’s lives when they are believed.

  • Amillennialism = No such thing as the 1000 year reign of Jesus Christ.
  • Postmillennialism = Jesus Christ returns after a period of 1000 years of peace, or an indefinite time of peace.
  • Premillennialism is what the Bible says happens.  Jesus Christ returns and rules and reigns for 1000 years (Revelation 20:4, 6)

Devil is now a Prisoner of War

  • Bottomless pit and hell are the same prison according to Revelation 20:1-2 and 2 Peter 2:4.  It is a place of lockup until their day in court, Matthew 25:41.  The souls of men were not made to be there (Luke 16:22), but that is where many end up.

The New Administration

  • The devil was the the god of this world (1 Corinthians 4:4) and the ruling regime (Revelation 13:4).
  • Now John sees the KING OF KINGS and LORD OF LORDS and His new cabinet members running things. (Revelation 20:4).  Who makes up this group?
    • Matthew 19:28 – apostles
    • Tribulation martyrs – Revelation 6:10-11, 12:11, 15:2
    • Sacrificial church age saints – 2 Timothy 2:12, Romans 8:17
    • Faithful – Luke 19:17, 19
  • Ruling is directly tied to what the world was unable to charm from you, tempt from you, coerce or force from you.  Ruling has to do with what trusting Jesus Christ cost you in this lifetime.

Possession of the Promised Land

  • Practically speaking the nations around Israel had gathered themselves to war.  With the second coming of Jesus Christ and the Battle of Armageddon destroying the nations and armies that gathered, the real estate from the Nile River to the Euphrates, and from Sinai to Turkey has been abandoned.  Now the Lord owns the land.
  • Curses removed.
    • Amos 9:11-15
    • Isaiah 11:4-9
    • Isaiah 65:17-25

The First Resurrection

  • Notice almost all, if not all, of the ruling class in the 1000 year reign of Jesus Christ were dead.
  • None of the wicked are resurrected at this time; look at Revelation 20:6.

The Last of the Gentiles put down

  • Back in Genesis the world was divided into three basic people groups: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
    • Ham occupied the promised land when God gave it to Abraham.  Jesus Christ recovers the land and Ham’s descendants are either reconciled or destroyed.
    • Shem was where Abraham came from and it was Shemite kings that were gathered together at the Battle of Armageddon (Revelation 16:12).
    • Japheth’s descendents went everywhere, but would be called European.
  • At the end of the 1000 year reign, the devil is loosed and gathers together Japheth’s lineage – Magog.
  • Go back to Genesis 10 to see the descendants and up to this point in time Shem and Ham’s descendants are either reconciled or destroyed.  But you haven’t read much about Japheth’s progeny (Genesis 10:1-5).
