Text: Ephesians 1:3-4

Heaven’s storehouse of blessings

  • Having trusted Jesus Christ to be your savior and believed he is the Son of God, you are now seated with Jesus Christ in heavenly places.  This is not an idea, but the physical location of the body of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Heavenly places: Ephesians 1:3, 20, 2:6, 3:10
  • Spiritual  blessings
    • Your physical blessings are in the future when the full redemption of the body occurs and this mortal will put on immortality.
    • Jesus Christ is the Mediator of Heaven’s storehouse (1 Timothy 2:5)
    • (1:4) Chosen in Christ.  You’re not chosen to be in Christ as an individual, rather, Christ is chosen and you get in Him.
    • (1:5) New birth into the family of God.  That will be fully realized in the future, but is also a present relationship between you and the Lord if you’re saved.
    • (1:6) The Lord Jesus Christ takes the unacceptable and makes it acceptable.
    • (1:7) Redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins (Colossians 1:14)
    • (1:9-10) In Christ, God’s plan to reconcile all things in heaven and earth is revealed.  That is a future physical event, but it is also a present spiritual event in individual lives.
    • (1:13) Sealed with God’s holy spirit in the giving of gifts, comfort, peace, and guidance until the full redemption of the purchased possession.
    • (1:19-20) Spiritual power that was wrought in Jesus Christ’s dead body.
    • (2:10) New creatures, workmanship of God unto good works.
    • (2:13-15) Our guilt was abolished in the flesh and blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.  We have an Advocate with the Father.
    • (2:18) Now physically, you have no access to God, but spiritually you are right there in the throne room with every opportunity of prayer for mercy and grace that you need.
    • (2:21-22) You provide a home for the Lord right now.  Like a brick in the wall, you are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.  Gifts of the spirit are here.
    • (3:9-11) Jesus Christ created all things and it would be God’s wisdom put on display by the church for all principalities and powers to see who is the only wise God.
    • (3:16) Strengthened with might by His spirit in the inner man.
  • This is a great doctrine showing your standing before God and explains why you are eternally secure in Christ.

Conforming sinners to His image

  • According as he hath chosen us in him means the Lord had a predetermined image He would conform sinners to.
  • His image is Holy
  • Holiness is Christ likeness.
    • If there is one thing the Lord wants from His people, it is holiness.  Holy Bible, Holy Spirit.  Holy Father, Holy Child, Holy Spirit. – Three part Holiness.
    • Be ye holy for I am holy.
    • Take the Temple as an example.  When the temple began to be corrupted, it was when it stopped representing the one who authored it.  When Israel’s poor leadership ceased to understand the temple for who it represented, it began to be profaned.
    • Holiness is the image, but sin is the perversion of the image.  The profanity, profaning, of God’s blueprint.
    • Now, if you’re saved here today, you represent Jesus Christ in the same way that temple was suppose to.  And in every area of your life that stops being Christ-like, that is the area that is profaned.
      • Christ-likeness in your affections – it starts there.
      • Christ-likeness in your will.
      • AW Tozer said, “The holy man is not one who cannot sin. A holy man is one who will not sin.”
  • Holiness is beauty
    • 1 Chronicles 16:29 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.
    • We can see the beauty of Holiness again in the Temple as it is contrasted with the sin the Lord encounters in the Temple.
    • Sin had taken the grace of God, His mercy, and a revelation of His character and turned it into a greedy, diseased, filthy, blind business of the masses.  Sin had taken something special and meaningful and precious and turned it into merchandise.
      • Like a drug would turn a mother into a harlot.
      • Like alcohol would turn a father into a gutter bum.
      • Sin is what turns souls into merchandise.  And it is an ugly decay.
      • Sin will make the relationship between husband and wife painful and full of regret.
  • Holiness is life
    • The old word for holy in the German language also meant healthy. You could not get any better definition of what holy really is than healthy—completely healthy.
    • Romans 1:3-4 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
  • His image is blameless before God
    • 1 Corinthians 1:8
    • Philippians 2:14-16
    • 1 Thessalonians 5:23
  • Walking in love

Prepares believers as children of God

  • The relationship as God’s child begins when you trust Jesus Christ.  Galatians 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
  • Adoption is complete when the body is changed.  Corruptible body is predestined to be changed.  Spiritually, you are a child of God, but physically you are not a child of God.
    • Romans 8:15, 23
    • Philippians 3:21
    • Romans 7:18
