God Words Aren’t Lost (Psalms #12)

Text: Psalms 12

The most important issue on which everything else stands is the words of God.  Did you ever think about the fact that nothing happens until someone says something.  Who is the final authority. How do I make judgments and decisions?

Falling away of the faithful

  • …faithful fail…
  • Falling away is in connection with the preservation of the words of God.  Or in their case, the failure to preserve the words of God.
  • Disregard God’s word in practice.  Hearer but not doer. Very dangerous position to be in a Bible believing church for years without any significant increase in spiritual productivity.  Immunize yourself from conviction and become hardened to the Holy Spirit.
  • Disregard God’s word in principle.
    • 1 Thessalonians 2:13 – The philosophy behind modern versions is that we do not have God’s words with us today so we have to settle for whatever is best, or whatever helps us most, or whatever we deem easiest to understand.
    • But actually, this is the philosophy of the consumer.  The publisher on the other hand has a different philosophy of the Bible.  The publisher’s philosophy is that it is a way to make money.

Corruption produced by those called God’s people

  • Vanity, flattering, double heart.
  • This tells you the inner working and why they are so sincere.  Double heart means on the one hand they want to make money by producing vanity.  On the other side they want to be faithful.
  • Not just “thees and thous” changed
    • Ecclesiastes 8:10 forgotten changed to “praised”
    • Isaiah 9:3 not increased their joy changed to “increased their joy”
    • Psalm 10:5 grievous changed to “prosperous”
    • Hosea 10:1 empty vine changed to spreading vine
    • Isaiah 18:2 scattered and peeled changed to “tall and smooth skinned”
    • Proverbs 26:22 wounds changed to “choice morsels”
    • Deletions: Matthew 17:21, Matthew 18:11, Matthew 23:14, Mark 7:16, Mark 9:44, Mark 9:46, Mark 11:26, Mark 15:28, Luke 17:36, Luke 23:17, John 5:4, Acts 8:37, Acts 15:34, Acts 24:7, Acts 28:29, Romans 16:24, 1 John 5:7
    • Not Easier to Read
      • Ephesians 4:15-16 – joint changed to “supporting ligament” – easier to understand?
      • Hebrews 1:3 – image changed to “representation”
      • Changes in modern versions that don’t update anything: Leviticus 11:30 snail to skink, hell to hades almost every time, Ezekiel 31:4 river to rivulets, 1 Samuel 13:21 file to pim, Acts 27:17 quicksand to Syrtis sands
    • Doctrines attacked in modern versions that they’ve inherited from the corrupt manuscripts (“As long as no doctrine is affected”)
      • Lie found in Mark 1:2-3
      • The trinity: 1 John 5:7 deleted, verses 6 & 8 divided to create a new verse 7
      • Deity of Christ: 1 Timothy 3:16 “God” changed to “he”, John 3:16 “one and only son” (which is a lie) in line with 1 John 4:3 and the spirit of antichrist
      • Virgin birth: Luke 2:33 “the child’s father” is said to be Joseph
      • Redemption: Colossians 1:14: “through his blood” is deleted
      • Baptism: Acts 8:37 Verse omitted
      • Isaiah 14:12 & Revelation 22:16 in an NIV Jesus Christ and the Devil are the same person – “the morning star”
  • With our tongue will we prevail… Our lips are our own: who is lord over us?
    • So they say, “Who are you to judge this translation?”
    • We’ll publish what we want to publish and it will be blessed.  I’ll say what I want to say and it will be OK. Who are you to tell me what to say anyway?!
    • 1 John 5:7 So we have these three witnesses — New Living Translation

Value of God’s words

  • The words of the Lord are pure words…
  • As silver tried in a furnace of earth
  • Important because it’s necessary for lives to be changed – Psalms 28:1
  • It is the truth, John 17:17
    • Where would you find truth if you didn’t have this book?  Newspapers, magazines, TV?
    • All experiences and doctrines should be laid to the plumbline of God’s words (Galatians 1:6-9, 2 Peter 1:13-21)
  • It is the words of eternal life
    • John 5:39-40, John 6:68, 1 Peter 1:23, James 1:18
    • Eternal life begins now, the words of God show what that looks like – Psalm 73:24-28, 1 Timothy 6:12
  • It is incorruptible
    • John 10:35, Isaiah 40:8, Matthew 24:35
    • God’s words are not bound (2 Timothy 2:9); there is no copyright on the text of the King James Bible
  • What is the Bible?
    • It is your sufficiency
    • Creation occurred by the words of God and continues to exist by the words of God (Hebrews 1:3); therefore God likens his words to things we look to sustain us like food and water
    • Milk – 1 Peter 2:2
    • Honey – Psalm 119:103
    • Bread – Luke 4:4
    • Water – Ephesians 5:26
    • Meat – Hebrews 5:12-14
    • It is an opportunity to exercise faith and please God – Romans 10:17
    • It is your mirror for self examination – James 1:23-25
    • It is your offensive weapon: how you mount an attack on a spiritual stronghold. Ephesians 6:17, Hebrews 4:12 & Revelation 19:15
  • It is your final judge
    • John 12:44-50 – God’s words are your judge
    • Luke 16:19-31 – what you do with the words of God will determine what God will do with you

Preservation of God’s words

  • Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them…
  • Would God write something down then lose it? No.
  • God did not inspire and produce words that He would lose.
  • How would he preserve it?
  • Isaiah 40:8, Matthew 24:35, Psalms 12:6-7 – Thou shalt keep them.  where are they?  If not here in this KJV then where?  And if they are in an NIV then the KJV is not the preserved word of God.
  • Secondly, what are you doing living your life according to the words of a man that are going to be improved on next year?
  • Somebody made copies
  • Supernatural protection found in the multitude of copies, and sermons (quotes): Psalms 68:11 The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it.
  • Jeremiah 36:17-18
  • 2 Peter 1:17-21—Someone spoke as moved by the Holy Ghost and someone else wrote it down
  • It is more sure than a voice out of heaven b/c it’s been tried
  • Romans 16:22—Paul speaks and Tertius writes
  • Proverbs 25:1
  • First of all, why not the KJV?
    • Good for 300 years before it was questioned
    • God blessed book in every genuine English speaking revival in history (Whitefield, Wesley, Finney, Spurgeon, Sam Jones, Bob Jones, Moody, Frank Norris, Roloff, Sunday, Talmage, Booth, etc)
    • Not owned by anyone, no royalties.
    • Manuscript evidence vindicates the KJV
    • So what was the turning point in 1881?
    • Great resource material on this subject by Peter Ruckman, Sam Gipp, Gail Riplinger, John William Burgon, and William Grady.
    • Primary corrupt manuscripts were Siniaticus, Vaticanus, Alexandrinus received into the Jerusalem Council.
