My Redeemer Liveth (Job #12)

Text: Job 19:24-27

Job 19:13-22 Job goes over all the companionship he has lost in this terrible trial. In verses 23 and 24 Job wants what he’s said and what he’s about to say regarding his Redeemer to be published in a book and communicated on a rock. How “coincidental” that the redeemer is the subject of the Book and the Redeemer is also called the Rock! Job has spent his time defending himself by appealing to the Redeemer he doesn’t know, but has described as his mediator, advocate, righteousness, and intercessor.

Redeemer is alive during Job’s trial

  • For I know that my redeemer liveth…
  • John 1:1-4, 14 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. … 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
  • John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
  • Passover Lamb pictured him
  • Daniel 3:25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.
  • 1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
  • Philippians 2:5-8 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
  • Equally important is that Job knows his redeemer is alive.
    • The Lord Jesus Christ is alive whether you know it or not. But you won’t be redeemed from judgment if you don’t know it.

Redeemer will physically be on this earth

  • …and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth
  • Luke 24:39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
  • Ascension
    • Acts 1:9-11 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. 10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; 11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
    • Mark 13:26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
    • Revelation 1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
  • Inheritance and reward
    • Revelation 22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
    • And when he returns, every soul that by faith believed that God is a rewarder and therefore stored up treasure in heaven will be given a place in the kingdoms of our Lord and of his Christ.

Redeemer’s visitation will mark the end of this present evil world

  • …and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth
  • Time determined by the Redeemer.
    • Dating system.
    • Beginning and end.
  • It will be the beginning of a 1000 year reign. Revelation 20:1-5

Redemption will physically put together a new body (vs 26)

  • Physical change of the body
  • 1 Corinthians 15:50, 53-57 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. … 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 56  The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Philippians 3:20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:
  • Redemption of the body has not happened yet, but if you’ve trusted Jesus Christ to save you from the body of sin you’re in, he’s given you his holy Spirit – the earnest (downpayment) of your inheritance, the spirit of adoption whereby we cry Abba Father.

Redemption is personal (vs 27)

  • All will be resurrected, but not all will be redeemed with a sinless body.
  • Daniel 12:2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
    • Some will be clothed in the righteousness of God which will be a sinless body that has been fashioned by Jesus Christ.
    • Others will be taken out of hell to stand before God and receive the Judge’s judgment.
    • Revelation 20:11-15
