One Nation Under God (Malachi #2)

One nation’s blessings over another

  • Genesis 25:19-23
  • The Lord is dealing with national blessings. Jacob’s blessings would be supernatural.
  • Romans 9:1-4 the blessings to Israel (the souls that came out of Jacob) are summarized
  • The Lord eliminates any natural source of blessing so that He will be the source of blessing. When the Lord says the elder shall serve the younger and the younger will be stronger, at that point it doesn’t matter who comes out first. If Jacob came out first then Esau would have the Spirit of God on his side and Jacob wouldn’t. What I’m saying is the Lord doesn’t have Jacob in mind over Esau. The Lord is saying He will be with the younger twin, and He will apply himself to the younger twin so that the blessings will be God’s blessings and not simply the blessings of the firstborn which were natural blessings. The Lord is going to eliminate any natural source of blessings so that His love will be highlighted in the younger twin’s nation.
  • Romans 9:10-16 (These are national blessings, not individual salvation.)
  • Genesis 28:1-5, 10-15
  • Now these are all Jacob’s children. And the Lord is going to love Jacob’s children and their generations. Exodus 1:1-14 This group of souls will be the apple of God’s eye (Deuteronomy 32:9-10). They will be known as the children of Israel who was formerly called Jacob. Remember Israel is the name God gave to Jacob.
  • Israel’s national eternal security – Malachi 3:6
  • Isaiah 45:4 Election of a nation is not individual salvation (Romans 9:6-8). And because God will use a nation doesn’t mean the individuals of the nation are saved.

Esau is hated, as a nation of people

  • What does it mean to be hated by God? It means the Lord will not regard the nation and will ensure the nation is forgotten.
    • Waste, dragons, wilderness.
    • Dragons are a problem for Bible critics. The word makes critics think the Bible is a fairy tale, but they don’t have the same criticism for zoos who house Komodo dragons.
  • Malachi 1:2-5 Israel is a nation even today. Edom is not a nation anymore.
    • Edom is patriotic – “we will rebuild”, but the Lord says, “No, you won’t.”

Lord will be magnified in Israel
