A Mother’s Faith

Now I lay me down to sleep

I pray my sanity to keep.

For if some peace I do not find

I fear I may just lose my mind.

I pray I find a little quiet

away from the family riot.

May I have a moment and not have to think

about what he’s stuffing down the sink.

Or what outrageous tales he’s told

and what stolen treasures his pockets hold.

Some peaceful moments for goodness sake

(Did I just hear a window break?)

Now I lay me down to sleep

I pray my sanity to keep

But as I look around, I know

I must have lost it long ago!

At 6 we say “I love you” Mom

At 10 we say “Whatever Mom”

At 16 we say “Mom is so annoying”

At 18 “I want to leave this house”

At 25 we say “Mom was right”

At 30 we say “Can I come over, Mom?”

At 50 “I don’t want to lose my mom.”

At 70 we say “I would give anything to have my mom here with me.”

A faith that the LORD will produce life out of death just as the LORD said (Hebrews 11:11)

  • Sarah was beyond child bearing age. That part of her life was past and over.
  • Believed God for a supernatural birth in spite of her lifeless womb.
    • Sarah could not produce what God wanted to produce in her.
    • That power is with God and given to them that believe, like Sarah.
  • Sarah was told God would bless her with a child and her first reaction was to laugh.
    • Some of you have done the same when a real Christian preached the gospel to you. You thought it was a joke.
    • Some of you here say you’re saved, but your life says what you really believe is that Christianity is a joke. Or at best a religion. Behavior is the best indicator of what you believe. You’ve claimed to be saved for years and have never produced any fruit.
    • Religion (Genesis 16:1-2,15) Sarah went to work trying to figure out how to make a promise of God work. Like religion says I’ll help God out in His plan. Instead of believing and yielding to what God has already said, religion says let me try to accomplish in the flesh what only God’s Spirit can do.
    • Mocking (Genesis 18:9-15). Sarah’s thought that God could not bring forth a miraculous birth. Laughter when the Lord calls her out in Genesis 18 then her perspective changes.
  • John 11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
  • Believe that Jesus Christ is LIFE

Sarah’s faith justified her

  • Does this mean Sarah never messed up? No, but it was Sarah’s faith that allowed the LORD to fulfill His promise through her, not in spite of her. Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
  • Sarah’s faith that allowed the LORD to fulfill His promise through her, not in spite of her. Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
    • Sarah’s faith allowed God to work. Sara herself received strength… Believing God yielded fruitfulness she once thought impossible (Hebrews 11:11-12)
    • Life that she could not produce in herself was produced. She became a vessel for the work of the LORD Jesus Christ. Without me, ye can do nothing is what Jesus said.
    • Sarah’s belief produced a miraculous birth
    • John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
    • John 3:3-6

Invitation to trust Jesus Christ

  • The LORD requires you to have faith like Sarah.
  • You are a sinner. You will die one day and after this the judgment. You will pay for your sins in an unquenchable fire. What you need is life from the LORD Jesus Christ.
