The Strange Woman (Proverbs #24)

Introduction (vss 1-5)

  • More of wisdom’s companionship
  • Just like every principle up to now is preceded by an attempt to get his son to listen.
  • The strange woman is the opposite of wisdom.

Illustration (vss 6-23)

  • Personality of temptation
  • He has no understanding, but knows where to go to do evil.
  • She has a way and a place.
  • Done in darkness.
  • drawn away of his own lusts – he may be a fool, but he is very in touch with his lusts.
  • Attire of a harlot is how she caught his attention
    • Appearances make a statement to people. Man looketh on the outward appearance, but God looketh on the heart. People quote that to shrug off the idea that appearances mean anything at all. The reality is of course they make a difference.
    • God said abstain from all appearance of evil.
  • She’s contrasted with the woman in Titus 2:3-5 who is a keeper at home.
  • Impudent means shameless, lacking modesty, and bold with a contempt for others.
  • The kiss is a lie, the offerings are a lie, the idea that she came looking for him is a lie. She is looking for whosoever, but it’s real flattering to say, You’re the one I’ve been waiting for.
  • She makes this fling sound so appealing. She’s prepared everything and it won’t cost him anything.
  • Consenting adults matter to the world, but not to God.
  • She’s married, but her husband will never be found out.
  • She breaks him down with her flattering talk and seductive speech.
  • Verses 22-27 are what she doesn’t tell him
  • You’re a servant, you’re addicted to this.
  • Dart struck through his liver. He’s caged like an animal and all that’s left is to kill him.

Instruction (vss 24-27)

  • Flee the Bible says
  • Joseph as an example
  • 1 Corinthians 6:18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
  • 2 Timothy 2:22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
