Hushai the Christian

Text: 2 Samuel 15:31-37, 16:15-19, 17:6-22

A very wise man named Ahithophel has come up with the perfect plan to kill David. It will work. And this man has the reputation for designing plans that work. David knows it.

2 Samuel 15:31-37

  • Hushai is an answer to prayer
    • What a welcome sight!
    • Wouldn’t you like to be a welcome sight to the king? Instead of grief?
  • Hushai identifies with the king
    • He empathizes. But more than that, he’s going to provide help to the king.

2 Samuel 16:15-19

2 Samuel 17:6-7

  • Hushai is sent into the enemy’s kingdom, but he’s not of the enemy’s kingdom.
    • Jesus Christ sends his own into the world, but his own people don’t operate with the same ambitions, same goals, same drives, same perspectives as the world around them. They’re not of this world, just in it.
    • 1 Corinthians 7:31 And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.
    • My relationship to this world needs to be Hushai’s relationship to this rebel king and his kingdom.
  • Hushai can’t change the enemy, but he can make room for the king to work
  • 1 Chronicles 27:33 Hushai the Archite was the king’s companion:
