Text: Daniel 1:8-16
Saying “The writing is on the wall!” Imminent danger has become apparent.
Origin ‘The writing is on the wall’ is also sometimes expressed as ‘the handwriting is on the wall’ or as ‘mene mene’. The first of those variations is an obvious synonym but what does ‘mene mene’ mean? This is a shortening of ‘mene mene tekel upharsin’, which is of Aramaic origin.
Daniel Ch 5 verse 9 astonied.
Da 5:5 In the same hour came forth fingers of a man’s hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaister of the wall of the king’s palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.
Da 5:24 Then was the part of the hand sent from him; and this writing was written.
Ex 8:16 And the LORD said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch out thy rod, and smite the dust of the land, that it may become lice throughout all the land of Egypt. 17 And they did so; for Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and smote the dust of the earth, and it became lice in man, and in beast; all the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt. 18 And the magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they could not: so there were lice upon man, and upon beast. 19 Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.
Ex 31:18 And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.
De 9:7-10 And the LORD delivered unto me two tables of stone written with the finger of God; and on them was written according to all the words, which the LORD spake with you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.
De 10:1 At that time the LORD said unto me, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first, and come up unto me into the mount, and make thee an ark of wood. 2 And I will write on the tables the words that were in the first tables which thou brakest, and thou shalt put them in the ark. 3 And I made an ark of shittim wood, and hewed two tables of stone like unto the first, and went up into the mount, having the two tables in mine hand. 4 And he wrote on the tables, according to the first writing, the ten commandments, which the LORD spake unto you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly: and the LORD gave them unto me.
Ps 8:3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
Lu 11:20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.
John 8:6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard not.
Da 5:27 TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.
Have you been found weighed in the balances and found wanting? of course we all have , without Christ we all know there is no hope. How is our obedience, how is our faith, how is our work, our witnessing etc.? Are we a good soldier in God’s army?

In Daniel, 27 times the word interpretation shows up. Far more than any other book in the Bible. Daniel’s book serves as a tool box to understand God’s prophetic program with Israel. His record gives meaning to several other books in the Bible. Daniel’s record provides a context to historical and future events as well as current events and what is NOT going on right now. The book of Daniel shows why the Bible is laid out the way it is. So much is understood through the lens of the book of Daniel, so it is no small wonder why the word interpretation appears so many times there.

Something here that we really need in 2015, a clearer vision of the Lord Jesus Christ. Daniel sees Jesus Christ in a pre-incarnate and glorified state. The angel that will speak with Daniel in verses 10-21 is not the same figure Daniel sees here I don’t think.

Kingdom of heaven is the literal, visible authority over material creation. The focal point in the universe is the Earth, and on the Earth it is narrowed down to Israel (land grant to Abraham in Genesis 15:18-19 that David recovers as king in 2 Samuel 8:3), and the capital city is Jerusalem.
