God Fearing People (Malachi #11)

Text: Malachi 3:16-18

The righteous are brought to conviction while the wicked argue with the Lord. So these are the characteristics of the righteous.

They gathered for fellowship

  • Congregation that fears the Lord is what the Lord wants. His desire is that people who love and fear God make friends with people who love and fear God. That they have frequent interaction, fellowship, encouragement, edification, strengthening the weak, hearts knit together, common bonds, goals and purposes.
  • Comfort one another, speaking to yourselves in songs, hymns, and spiritual songs. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.
  • Servants of God aren’t going to change the world, but we can make sure the world doesn’t change us.
  • Fellowshipped together more regularly. Hebrews 10:23-25 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) 24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Their repentance is noted by God

  • …the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written…
  • Names of those who returned to build the house of God in Ezra 2:1.
  • Names recorded in the book. Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

They are of real value to God (vs 17)

  • Stubble (4:1) vs Precious stones (3:17)
  • Burned material vs Building material
  • They’ll be jewels and precious stones. 1 Peter 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
  • New Jerusalem with names in these stones in Revelation 21.

They are rescued as an only begotten Son (vs 17)

Their return is the end of the world and the beginning of righteous rule (vs 18)

  • Daniel 12:2
  • Hosea 13:14 and 1 Corinthians 15:55
