The Property of Wisdom (Proverbs #27)

Text: Proverbs 8:14

Wisdom is necessary for good leadership. This is what Solomon prayed for in 1 Kings 3:6-9. Solomon needed the ability to discern good from bad because sometimes that’s complicated. What’s bad doesn’t always appear bad.

When it comes to leadership or ruling, wisdom has four essential elements.

Counsel is owned by wisdom

  • The role of counsel in leadership is to give advice, opinion, and instruction for directing the judgment or conduct of another.
  • David Gibbs flight story
    • The voice, just listen to my voice and I’ll get you home.
    • The voice sees you, but you can’t see him.

Sound wisdom as opposed to worldly wisdom

  • There are different types of wisdom. Godly wisdom versus Satanic wisdom are the most critical and the most opposed to each other. James 3:13-18.
  • Sound wisdom is laid up for the righteous and it makes righteous judgments as opposed to judgments based on appearance.

Wisdom is understanding

  • To apprehend the real state of things is absolutely necessary in leadership.
  • Daniel was a man of great understanding. Ten times in the book of Daniel the Holy Spirit speaks of Daniel’s understanding.
  • Understanding is to muddle through emotions or even lies to figure out what is really going on. Is this guilt talking? Is this your hurt pride talking?
  • The great example of understanding in Solomon’s case happened between two mothers in 1 Kings 3:16-28.

Wisdom has strength

  • Strength is not always muscles. Wisdom beats muscles anyday and everyday.
  • Proverbs 30:24-28 – Strength is simply the ability to do a work. Proverbs 24:10 If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small, meaning if the adverse situation renders you unable to complete the task, then you lack strength. But strength is not only accomplished by power or force, in fact there is more strength in wisdom. Ecclesiastes 7:19 Wisdom strengtheneth the wise more than ten mighty men which are in the city. One man can do the job of ten if that one man is wise. These weak creatures are little yet exceeding wise. And their success is due to the wisdom God has given them.
  • Wisdom in preparation with the ants
    • People not strong. But they survive and thrive under adverse conditions because they prepare for them. Proverbs 6:8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
    • Wisdom is often found in the preliminary acts, the preparations that are made.
  • Wisdom in protection with the conies which are like rabbits
    • Recognizing weaknesses
  • Revelation 3 and the Laodicean church
  • Wisdom in knowing your place like the locusts
  • Wisdom in perseverance like the spider
