Text: Hebrews 11:32-40
God’s promises are the source of comfort, not God’s control
- …others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection.
- Haven’t you said at one time when you didn’t know what else to say that it will be OK because God is in control?
- So we go through verses 32-35 and see victory, God’s hand of deliverance, BUT in the middle of verse 35 the tone changes, and others were tortured…
- So sometimes God intervened and sometimes God didn’t intervene.
God’s promises are the basis of God’s examination on souls
- …these all having obtained a good report through faith…
- So sometimes God intervened and sometimes God did not, but the thing that remained the same was the promise of God and what men did with that.
- Report card on the saints
- Good report like an “A” on a report card. It’s like the Lord Jesus Christ recommending these souls to His Father based on the things you just read.
- Good report came in a variety of circumstances, and faith was the thing highlighted.
- (Going through all the individual circumstances)
