Text: Hebrews 12:14
There is a phrase in this verse that leads to a better understanding of grace than is commonly used. If someone can fail of the grace of God, then the normal definition of grace – unmerited favor – getting what you don’t deserve – doesn’t work. We’re going to take time in this study to rethink our thoughts on grace.
Common definition
- Unmerited favor
- Getting what you don’t deserve.
Grace is God’s favor
- Luke 2:40
- Ruth 2:10-16
- Esther 2:17
Grace is God’s supply
- 2 Corinthians 12:9 Grace to meet the need
- Grace versus works 2 Corinthians 9:8 – God’s supply or your own supply
- 1 Corinthians 15:10
Grace is put into action through faith
- By grace through faith…
- It may not be earned, but someone can hinder God’s grace, Galatians 2:21.
- Here is Hebrews 12:15 someone fails to follow peace and holiness and look diligently and consequently fails of the grace of God.
- We’ve come to the idea that God’s grace is a blind eye to sin or just ignoring sin altogether. Titus 2:11-14 says just the opposite.
