Hebrews 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
Humanity under the death sentence
- Ever since sin got into the bloodline of man, every baby boy and baby girl born in the line of Adam had a death sentence upon them. In Adam all die.
- The wages of sin is death.
- You learned early on that sin was in your blood, it was in your nature.
- You weren’t taught to lie. You knew how to do that. It came naturally.
- You weren’t taught to disobey mom and dad. That came naturally.
- When you became a teenager, you weren’t taught to lust. It came naturally.
- You didn’t have to be taught to ignore God. You found that ignoring God was just out of habit.
- And all the while humanity went right on in sin, adultery, fornication, uncleanness, wrath, malice, witchcraft, idol worship, man headed for a place called Death.
- It is appointed unto man once to die and after this the judgment.
- But what humanity didn’t know is that the Creator already had a plan to deal with death and the contaminated bloodline of Adam.
- Your Creator had scriptures written, sent prophets, established a nation through which He would reveal Himself.
- And for nearly 2000 years of human history God would record and foreshadow His plan of salvation.
- Passover lamb, serpent on a pole, Job’s redeemer, the Psalms’ blessed man, the Mordecai in the book of Esther, Boaz in the book of Ruth, and I could go on and on.
- The Savior, the Messiah, the Christ, would be a man, and God, who would have to live a sinless life. So he couldn’t have Adam’s nature, He would have God’s nature. And his sinless life would mean he’d be a holy sacrifice, acceptable to the Father to pay the debt man owed to God Almighty for the sin he brought into the world.
God’s plan would be offensive to sinful man
- You can’t do good to get to God Almighty.
- If you could just buy off your guilt with a few good things, why didn’t the Lord Jesus Christ just say, Do good. Why did he die?
- Galatians 3:21 …for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.
- No baptism to take it away.
- If you could buy off your guilt with a baptism, why didn’t the Lord Jesus Christ just say, Go get baptized. Why did he die?
- 1 Corinthians 1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect
- No church joining or organization will bring salvation
