The servant is a great type of the Holy Spirit of God in this chapter. It describes Rebekah as a type of a believer in Jesus Christ.
Believers are in the world, but not of the world (vss 1-6)
- Abraham says don’t take a wife out of the Canaanite culture.
- There’s a certain type of person that becomes a believer.
- Everyone starts in the world. But believers are lost in the world. Non-believers are at home in the world. They aren’t lost. They are loving it.
Believer is willing (vss 7-9)
- Bye bye Calvinism.
- Whosoever will. The appointment is for whosoever will come.
Believer meets the servant of the LORD at the well of water (vss 10-14)
- Hungering and thirsting after righteousness.
- Living water. The water well is a life giving source.
Believer makes room for the servant of the LORD (vss 15-28)
Evil is in the same household as the believer (vss 29-31)
- Laban sees the gold and says, Oh yes, we have room for you!
- The devil is present.
Believer receives the earnest of the inheritance, a down payment (vss 32-60)
- Verses 52-53.
When we see Christ (vss 61-67)
- Rebekah still hasn’t seen the bridegroom. She’s trusted the servant to be telling the truth. She’s seen some evidence that he is telling the truth and that his Master is very wealthy and looking for a certain lady.
- Seeing Christ face to face seems to make people want to cover themselves.
