Theories
- The theories about this number are endless, truly endless. Typically people take a news article about some technology or government tyranny then go to the Bible and say, See, this is that. Non-biblical explanations for prophetic matters make lost people who work in these industries continue to think Bible-believing people are fools who have no understanding of things work.
- The UPC code
- Some experience with this stuff when I was in the oilfield overseeing the movement of products including products we made. We would have to label our products with pertinent information to track the source of the product if something was wrong with it. Information like who the manufacturer is, where it was produced, what batch it was produced in, the timing of production, things like that. Vehicles have VINs where the numbers and letters each have significance.
- So on a Universal Product Code this is what you’re actually looking at.
- Number System Digit by itself which tells you what kind of product or coupon this is, followed by a Manufacturer Code that is 5 numbers, that’s followed by a space, then a specific Product Code that is 5 numbers, and ending with a Check Digit that is like a security number.
- What you’re looking at with the double lines at the beginning, middle, and end are placeholders that have no value. To a person they look like a six but they are not sixes nor does the computer recognize them as sixes. A six in bar code language is a line-space-line-space-space-space-space, it contains 7 places.
- Is this number a military ID#? Is this a number derived from Roman numerals that are also letters?
- Neron Caesar spelled out in Hebrew characters comes to 666. That’s a mysticism called Gematria. And it’s notoriously flexible in that anything can mean almost anything. Neron Caesar can be spelled without the “n” on the end of Nero which makes the name add up to 616.
- Now, are you supposed to use the Bible to interpret the Bible? Of course, the Bible interprets itself.
Nature of numbers
- Numbers are descriptions. Numbers do not have power in themselves. Mathematics is a language that describes the relationships of material things in space and time. Numbers are not things in themselves.
- Fourteen. What am I talking about?
- A doctor friend started down this slippery slope of fear and obsession. He became so obsessed with 666 that he saw it everywhere. He showed me a woven wicker basket one day and said, See how it’s woven into sixes?
- Babylonian numbers as a base 60 system instead of our Arabic 10 base system.
The number of his name
- Revelation 13:17, 15:2
- You’re supposed to count the number.
- This is called wisdom in Revelation.
- Census data – Numbers 1:2,18,20,22,24,26,28,30,32,34,36,38,40,42, and 3:40. And Acts 1:15
- John 5:43 I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.
