Text: Exodus 6:3
Let’s read the first three verses of Exodus 6. I’d like to take the last phrase of verse 3 as a theme for our sermon today: but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.
The name JEHOVAH is also called the tetragrammaton. It is the YHWH with vowels added. And sometimes when you see the name LORD in all capitals in the KJV it refers to this name. The definition of the name means self-existing, in other words, I AM that I AM. And when Moses was told that I AM sent you, that is the origin of this name. JEHOVAH means the all-sufficient, father of spirits, only almighty, true, personal, holy being. Jewish tradition does not allow the name to be pronounced. However, it’s clear that the name was pronounced early on because it is recorded in Moabite writings.
- Psalm 83 is a prayer for the LORD, JEHOVAH, to judge Israel’s enemies so that all may know who the true God is.
- Isaiah 12 is a song of praise to JEHOVAH who brings salvation.
- Isaiah 26 is a song of praise to JEHOVAH who puts down His enemies and brings salvation.
Further revelation is intended
- The LORD intends to bring the nation into a personal relationship with him.
Responsible for the revelation given
- So the Jewish fathers had less revelation, but more faith?
- Everyone is responsible for the revelation God has given.
Here’s how you’ll get to know me
- You’ll experience a strong and mighty redemption that man cannot accomplish
- Sevenfold relationship
- I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians
- I will get rid of their bondage
- I will redeem you with great power
- I will take you for my people
- I will be your God
- I will bring you into the land I promised your fathers
- I will give it to you for an heritage
- How well do you know the LORD?
