Lover of Good Men
Text: Titus 1:8
You’ve heard that nobody’s good. You’ve heard you can’t be good. And Baptists have WAY overstated this. They have grossly exaggerated man’s sin and applied it so loosely that no one can be good. But that poses a problem because Titus is supposed to find good men who are lovers of good men.
Who are the good men?
- Proverbs 2:20 defines good men as those who stay away from youthful lusts.
- Emphasis on doing good in Titus
- Titus 1:16 reprobate concerning good works
- Titus 2:3,5,7,14, 3:1,8,14
Good works are the purpose of Christianity
- Full of good works like in Matthew 5:16
- Galatians 6:10
- 1 Thessalonians 5:15
Leadership in a congregation should love good men
- What someone is attracted to tells you about them.
- Attracted to good people says this is probably a good person.
- Looking back and looking around at who gets priority as leadership.
- Sometimes it’s a personality decision to help the pastor.
- Sometimes it’s a family decision because people are related.
- Sometimes it’s a money decision to give the church access to wealth.
