Psalm 21 – David’s Testimony

David’s Testimony

(The Name of the Lord)

Text: Psalm 21

David yet again explains the benefits he’s experienced as trusting the LORD. However, he puts these words in the mouths of the people talking about their king. This spirit in David is the spirit of Christ, so this psalm like many others is Messianic.

David finds his joy in the Lord’s salvation (vss 1-2).

  • What David means is his deliverance from his enemies.
  • This has been David’s chief desire.

David knows he’s been greatly honored by the Lord (vss 3-7)

  • David’s way was paved with goodness.
  • David was granted life from the Lord.
  • David received a crown from the Lord.
  • David understands that trusting the Lord has put him in this position.

David knows the Lord will deal harshly with his enemies (vss 8-13)

  • God’s enemies can’t secretly hate the Lord. They’ll be found out.
  • Fiery destruction is similar to Paul’s description in 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10.
  • David is talking about specific people who intended a wicked plan.
