Text: Psalm 19
Scoffers complain that if God was real He needs to make Himself known. The reality is He has made so much of Himself known there is no excuse.
Voice of the heavens (vss 1-6)
- Speaks of God’s glory
- Jeremiah 33:25-26
- Noah and the rainbow in the first heaven
- Genesis 15:5 – Abrahamic covenant
- Matthew 2:2 – his star in the east is the morning star
- Speaks of God as Creator
- Firmament sheweth his handiwork…
- Earth is named by God.
- Sun is named by God.
- Moon is named by God.
- Planets are named by man.
- Speaks daily
- Speaks nightly
- Speaks universally
- Sun is magnified in the heavens
- Genesis 1:14-19
- Sun is like a groom. The heavens are a tabernacle for the Sun. The Sun rules the day. Notice how that word “rule” is first used in the Bible.
- Man lost sight of the Sun to focus on the moon, the planets, explore space.
- The world will use “wisdom to make itself deaf to the voice of creation.
- 1 Corinthians 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God…
Voice from the heavens (vss 7-11)
- You and I need revelation from heaven. We can’t live without it. We can exist, but we can’t live without it.
- perfect… converting the soul – James 5:19-20
- sure… making wise the simple
- right… rejoicing the heart
- pure… enlightening the eyes – sight as a result of cleansing
- clean… enduring forever
- true and righteous… warning and great reward
Voice toward the heavens (vss 12-14)
- Cleanse me
- Without revelation from God, I don’t know myself. Who can understand his errors?
- Begging help from presumptuous sin. Sinning without apology. When you sin and your proud of it, that is a sin that has dominion over you. The great transgression
- Keep my heart and mouth acceptable to you
- Everything else in this Psalm is acceptable except man, except me.
