Text: Exodus 2:10-25 & Hebrews 11:24-26
Faith that refused to be identified with Pharaoh’s family (vs 24)
- refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter…
- Moses knew he could not participate in Egypt’s culture and serve the LORD. He knew the LORD had another place for the Hebrews to go and it was time to go.
- The LORD doesn’t have another physical place for you to go like He did the Hebrews. So you must participate in the place you are, but with a reference to the hope you have in Jesus Christ.
- Moses’ heart was out of Egypt long before he led God’s people out of Egypt.
Faith that chose Christ’s affliction (vs 25)
- choosing rather to suffer affliction…
- Why would you choose affliction? Because you’re believe there is a greater reward than present pleasure.
- God is honest about sin’s enjoyment. It’s not that Moses didn’t have feelings toward Egypt, and it’s not that Moses didn’t have fun in Egypt, but he chose to suffer… rather than enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season…
Faith that valued Christ’s reproach (vs 26)
- esteeming the reproach of Christ
- It’s not that Moses knew who the Lord Jesus Christ was here, but he did understand the spirit of God in relation to man. And he certainly understood the stigma that accompanies the Spirit of God in a man.
- Here two things are compared that explain why the world cannot understand a Bible believer’s perspective. On the one hand, you have the reproach of Christ and on the other the treasures of Egypt. To the world, this is not even a debate. You just take the riches of Egypt.
- The lost world trades edification from the words of God in a church for a dollar.
- The lost world gladly trades fellowship in the word of God on Sunday with sports.
- The lost world easily gives up Bible teaching on Sunday for hunting or fishing.
- Faithless people don’t find value in Christ’s reproach. Faithful people find so much value there, they are willing to give up everything for the reproach of Christ.
Faith that respected God’s reward (vs 26)
- respect unto the recompence of the reward
- Moses gave up on his opportunity to be royalty in Egypt.
- Moses gave up on the wealth and inheritance in Egypt.
- You were told early in Hebrews 11 that he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
- Seeking worldly wealth at the expense of godliness happens because you don’t believe God will reward you.
- That verse says faith requires you to believe God is a rewarder of those who make a diligent search by well-doing for glory, honor, immortality, and eternal life. That’s how Paul characterized it in Romans 2:6-11.
