Bitterness Made Sweet (Exodus #22)

Text: Exodus 15:22-27

Introduction: Evils of the pilgrim’s life

  • They appear early
  • They threaten necessities
  • Man defaults to infidelity

It took a tree to make bitter waters sweet. In this case, the LORD changes the bitter waters by adding something to them.

  • Light to guide makes bitterness sweet
    • Moses issues a law here at this point.
    • Moses likens this to the word of God cleaning the nation of Israel so the plagues of Egypt don’t come on them.
    • If you’ll do these things, you’ll have the blessing of God.
    • Moses said the LORD would heal them. How? By the words of God.
  • The cross makes bitterness sweet
    • The cross, literally the tree, removes the curse upon sinners.
    • Galatians 3:13-14 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: 14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
