Where God Meets Man (Exodus #35)

Text: Exodus 25

Freewill offering (vss 1-9)

  • The offerings given as an act of their free will are the gifts God will use to build his house. There I will meet with you.
  • This physical structure and furniture will be symbolic.

Ark of the Covenant (vss 10-22)

  • The ark of the covenant is a box that is about 4ft long and 2ft wide and 2ft deep. It is going to be made very extravagantly because it’s being made for the King. The King of the God’s kingdom. 
  • The meeting place is the first thing described. Everything else is structured around the meeting place. The ark communicates God’s priority.
  • Can two walk together except they be agreed? Meaning if people are going to get together there has to be an appointment of time and place.
  • We are good at making priorities out of things that God doesn’t make priorities out of.  Jesus Christ said of the Pharisees they did a lot of things, but they left the weightier matters of judgment and mercy undone. What you leave undone will determine what kind of Christian you are.  Priorities are 
  • When fellowship with God is in its right place, everything else will be in the right place.
  • Foundational priority – 1 Corinthians 3:11 – Jesus Christ is the only true foundation of all things.
  • Characterized as the place of mercy
    • Meeting at the place of mercy
    • Be merciful as your Father in heaven is merciful.
  • Hidden meeting place
    • The ark will be behind multiple curtains.
    • The high priest was the only one to enter.

Table of bread (vss 22-30)

  • This speaks of provision and fellowship. This will be for the priests to eat while they minister in the tabernacle.
  • The bread was made every sabbath according to 1 Chronicles 9:32.
  • It is the LORD’s table.

Golden Candlestick (vss 31-40)

  • The candlestick is the source of light in the tabernacle.
  • It has seven branches b/c it is indicative of the seven spirits of God.
    • Zechariah 3:9, 4:10
    • Revelation 5:6
