The Word Made Flesh

Text: John 1:14

The Bible presents Jesus Christ as a timeless person

  • The beginning was the Word…
  • Christ was before Abraham, John 8:56-59
  • John 17:5 Christ in glory before the world began
  • Some critics say John is tyring to make Jesus like God even though he wasn’t. But John isn’t the only one to talk like this.
    • The prophet Micah, 700 years before Christ’s birth, said Jesus Christ would be born in Bethlehem, but he’s everlasting.
    • Isaiah prophesied about 750 years before Christ’s birth said Jesus will be called everlasting.
    • He was described through history before being born.
    • The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

The Bible presents Jesus Christ in unity and of the same substance as God the Father

  • The Word was with God…
  • 2 Peter 1:2-4 explains the divine nature found in Jesus Christ that Christians participate in with him.
  • John 17:11 Jesus’ prayer was that Christians would share the same unity that he had with God the Father.

The Bible presents Jesus Christ as instrumental in creation

  • John 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
  • The Lord Jesus Christ is the instrument of creation. Everything created was created by Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the creator, architect, and source of all life.
  • Man was made a steward of creation.
  • Faith is necessary because nothing is created apart from the word of God.

The Bible presents Jesus Christ as the source of life

  • I am the way, the truth and the life.
  • The life is the light of men. Men walk in darkness when they walk according to their own pleasures. But light is the revelation from God.

The Bible presents Jesus Christ as the last thing God has said to people

  • Has in these last days spoken to us by His Son.
  • This is my beloved Son, hear ye him.
  • He is how God the Father measures people.
    • Til Christians grow to the measure of Christ…

The Bible presents this divine person as having become a man

  • 1 John 1:1-3 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; 2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) 3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
  • In the most incredible event in human history, divinity was born in order to be the only man who pleased the Father. He would become the substitute for all of mankind in mediation between God and man.
  • John 20:31 these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
