Humanity of God
We know Christ existed as the word of God to man prior to being born
- He existed as a promise from the Father. Abraham’s seed is Christ.
- Christ was before Abraham, John 8:56-59
- John 17:5 Christ in glory before the world began
- He existed as the hope of Israel. The nation was pregnant with the Messiah.
- He was the testimony of the prophets. Holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
- The Word became flesh according to John.
- The Bible presents Jesus Christ as the last thing God has said to people
- Has in these last days spoken to us by His Son.
- This is my beloved Son, hear ye him.
- He is how God the Father measures people…Til Christians grow to the measure of Christ…
Jesus’ miraculous birth by the Spirit of God
- Matthew 1:20
- Jesus Christ and the Father are one in the same way he wants Christians to be one (John 17:11-21). Look at 1 John 1:1-3.
- The only supernatural acts Jesus did were acts of goodwill, not judgment. He didn’t cause lightning to strike people. The signs that God was with him were healing, helping, calming storms, etc.
Christ acquired moral strength and wisdom
- Luke 2:40, 45-46, 52 Jesus learned what his purpose was as a man
- Hebrews 5:7-9 He became the author of salvation as he mediates by dying as a holy man. He was heard in that he feared so Jesus Christ was afraid of something. Learned obedience through suffering
Christ does not know some things
- What does one have to know in order to be divine? Does God have to know everything? What if he just knows the future of every decision and his understanding is infinite?
- He is surprised by the centurion’s faith in Matthew 8:10-13
- He does not know the day or the hour in Mark 13:32
He was limited by the flesh in normal ways
- Matthew 8:24 – asleep
- Mark 11:12 – hungry
- John 19:28 – thirst
- Matthew 8:20 – no home
- Hebrews 2:8-10 Jesus is man to taste death for every man.
Jesus Christ was a man experiencing emotions as a man
- John 11:35, 38 – weeping, groaning (Luke 19:41)
- Mark 7:34, 8:12 – sighing
- Mark 14:34 – excessive sorrow
- Mark 3:5 – disappointed in those he spent so much time with
- John 13:21 – very troubled by a friend and betrayer
