Strangers and Pilgrims

Peter deals with Christians in the world as strangers living in a foreign land waiting to go home. The question he’s dealing with is how do you live in a place that is not your home.

1:1 strangers (Exodus 6:4)

1:3 lively hope

1:4 inheritance reserved in heaven

1:6 season of temptations

1:7 trial of faith

1:8 now you don’t see him

1:11 the sufferings of Christ in this time

1:12 angels in heaven don’t understand because they’re in heaven and don’t live here

1:13 prepare your mind, get your perspective set right

1:15-17 pass the time of your sojourning in holiness and fear of God

1:18 why pass the time in holiness? Because your redemption is holy

1:21 faith and hope might be in God

1:23-25 the world you’re in fades away, but the word of God that enlightened your heart and mind unto salvation is forever

 

2:1 grace of God in Jesus Christ teaches to live godly

2:11 as strangers and pilgrims (2:12 this is why it sounds like Jewish Christians because at that time in history the Jews have no nation. They have not been a nation since Babylon destroyed Jerusalem)

2:13 submit yourselves as much as you can to the owner of the house you’re in. This isn’t your home

2:20 take it patiently… take it patiently

2:24 he bore our sins so we are dead to sins and should live unto righteousness

 

3:1 how wives change their husbands’ minds and love their husbands

3:7 how husbands get their prayers answered and love their wives

3:8 mutual submission of Christians and keeping your

3:15 be ready to give an answer for the hope that’s in you

3:17 suffer for righteousness sake just like Christ did and he’s now gone into heaven (3:22) waiting to return

 

4:1 arm your mind with the mind of Christ

4:2 no longer live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God

4:3 your past has enough sin in it, move on to holiness in Christ

4:4 lost folks think your life will be strange because you don’t participate in sin

4:6 gospel came to those dead in trespasses and sins that men might judge your life in Christ as you live a spiritual life

4:7 the end is at hand, whether it’s your death or Jesus Christ returning

4:8 have fervent charity among yourselves

4:13 rejoice as a partaker of Christ’s sufferings looking forward to the glory that shall be revealed

4:16 suffering as a criminal is not honorable, but suffering as a Christian is

4:19 commit to well doing as to a faithful Creator.

 

5:1 how the elders and pastors should occupy their time and look forward to a future glory

5:6 humble yourselves and the LORD will exalt you in due time

5:9 resist the devil, like Jesus did in his temptation

5:10 eternal glory after you suffered for a while

5:14 peace unto all that are in Jesus Christ
