The Christmas Gift
I realize the verse says his UNSPEAKABLE gift, but we will do our best to speak on it. Paul is overwhelmed after speaking about the generosity of the saints, he is reminded of the incomprehensible generosity of God Almighty. The gift is everlasting life.
A gift begins with a generous giver
- James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
- John 3:16 – God so loved the world that He GAVE. But it is also personal.
Gifts are wrapped and eternal life is no different
- Wrapped in a history of hope and anticipation.
- Wrapped in a national culture built around the Messiah.
- Wrapped in flesh.
- 1 John 1:1-4 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
All gifts have a price and the cost of eternal life was to show what it looked like in the flesh!
- We all decide what we want to spend on presents at Christmas because gifts have a cost.
- The cost was that eternal life became a man to show what it looked like in the flesh. But then die the only acceptable death in human history.
- Philippians 2:7-10
- Isaiah 53
- Jesus is a man who is wholly dedicated to the Father. He gives the only life he has to the Father by given the only life he has to humanity.
- Galatians 1:4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:
- Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
- 1 Timothy 2:6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
- Eternal life would be proven by the resurrection.
The gift of everlasting life is accepted by humanity trusting Jesus enough to follow in his steps
- Jesus tells the rich young man to separate himself from his covetousness and follow him
- 1 Peter 4:10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
- What Christianity says is that it is reality. It is the real framework for what is. And maybe you’re starting to come to that conclusion. Jesus is real and he makes the most sense in this world.
- Maybe you want to put a stamp on that thought and say Lord, from this point on, I’m convinced that Jesus Christ is the truth and I want to stop neglecting him. I want to stop my own ways and start following Jesus Christ. You can make that your prayer today!
