Spiritual Leadership (Ruth #8)

Naomi is the voice of instruction. She gives good counsel to Ruth. She encourages Ruth in the right things. Motivation and purpose are perhaps the most immediate benefits of godly guidance. The result of Ruth’s faithfulness and Naomi’s guidance is fruitfulness and new life.

Naomi’s guidance magnifies the kinsman (2:20)

  • Holy Spirit like Naomi speaks of the kinsman, not himself.
  • John 15:26, 16:13-14
  • The Holy Spirit does not talk about himself, but some denominations seem to talk only about the Holy Spirit.
  • 2 Peter 1:19-21

Naomi’s guidance encourages Ruth in well-doing (2:22)

Naomi explains what the kinsman can do for Ruth (3:1-2)

  • 1 Corinthians 2:9-12 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

Naomi instructs Ruth on how to approach the kinsman (3:3-4)
