Jesus in Job

Text: Job

(Elihu’s teaches grace through faith)

This week I had a “duh” moment reading through Job. It should have been obvious. But Job’s story explains WHY Jesus Christ must be a man.

Proof of scriptural inspiration – One of the things about the God of the Bible is his ability to explain future things, particularly in regards to his own work and his own plans that are carried out over centuries of time.

There is no one to take away his sin

  • Job 7:21
  • 1 John 2:2, 4:10

There is no mediation between man and God

  • Job 9-10
  • Job desperately wants someone who can speak for man to God and for God to man.

There is no one who has conquered death

  • Job 13:7-10
  • Job is looking for help to overcome death because he’s trapped in this life.

There is no advocate to take up Job’s cause

  • Job 16:19-22
  • Job desperately needs someone to take up his case before God.

The Redeemer is man’s only hope, but he has not appeared yet

  • Job 19:24-27
  • Job ultimate hope is redemption from corruption. And he knows his redeemer is alive somewhere somehow.

There is no one to explain righteous suffering

  • Job 21:4-5
  • Job has no explanation for good people suffering. Or even if it’s worth it.

There is no way to God

  • Job 23:3
  • Job has no access to the Father. He cannot approach God in anyway, but feels the need to.

There is no one to reward righteousness

  • Job 31
  • Job has no certainty that goodness is rewarded.
