Ambassadors for God’s Kingdom (Luke #39)

Ambassadors for God’s Kingdom

Text: Luke 10:1-24

Disciples sent out

Ambassadors sent (vss 1-12)

  • Seventy disciples are sent out with the same abilities that the twelve had and now return to Jesus. Ambassadors for a nation that will bring forth fruit from the word of God.
  • Bless those who receive you with joy.
  • Shake the dust off your feet if they won’t listen.

Greater opportunity given means greater damnation (vss 13-16)

  • Greater damnation to those who’ve been given more.
  • If they won’t hear you, they won’t hear me and therefore aren’t listening to the Father.

Rejoice that your name is written in glory, not that you have superpowers (vss 17-20)

  • Taking pride in their power is not a good thing.
  • Satan’s fall was fast as lightning. Pride swallowed him up like a flood and he instantly fell from grace.
  • Rejoice that your name is written in glory, not that you have superpowers.

Out of the mouth of babes (vss 21-24)

  • Psalm 8:2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger
  • Isaiah 28:9 because 28:1-8 the priests are all drunks. They haven’t grown up on the milk of the word, they’ve grown up looking through a bottle and there is nothing God can teach them
  • Jesus Christ quotes this in Matthew 21:15-16 to the religious leaders when he entered Jerusalem as the King.
  • 1 Corinthians 1:27-29…that no flesh should glory…
  • Matthew 18:1-4… greatest in the kingdom of heaven…
