Compassionate Shepherd
Text: Matthew 14:13-14
One of the most endearing qualities of the Lord Jesus Christ is compassion. Several times Matthew records this description of the Lord’s compassion on a needy, wandering crowd (Matthew 9:36, 15:32, 20:34).
Compassion knowing the sin in these peoples’ lives
Feeds the flock

Marks the flock
- Mark in the ear

Manages the field
- Make the field fit – Luke 23:14, the Lord did not give unbelievers an excuse to blaspheme God

Protects the flock
- From predators – Acts 20:29-31 – spiritual predators
- From disease – 2 Timothy 2:14-18 – spiritual disease
Stimulates healthy reproduction
- Acts 2:47, 5:12-14, 11:22-24
Sacrifices himself for His sheep
- In John 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
Lives to make his flock productive
- Hebrews 13:20-21
